Lanson Smithers:
Lanson Smithers was a brave soldier who had accomplished nothing in his entire military career, until the day he died, when he perhaps saved the rest of his entire regiment of local heroes in this town, with his one true friend in life Yoshiko, who lived to tell the story of the great Lanson Smithers. Lanson was discovered to have scoliosis around the age of 15, A disease even in present day 1918, we still have not been able to cure or fix in any way. He realized when he turned 18 a few months ago, that he wanted to join the military, because he couldn't do much else with his life before he was crippled forever. The military did not want to accept this unknowingly brave, seemingly useless soldier, but we needed soldiers for our army if we were to defeat the Germans. On the day he died, Yoshiko had been hit in the leg with a musket, and his back started to give out, and the unit left them behind, as the Germans were hot on their tale, and the trenches were nowhere near. Yoshiko was crawling in the woods, trying to create a splint for his leg, when all of a sudden, he noticed a small unit of German soldiers but was helpless to do anything other than hope but not be found, and to hope Lanson would not die. But then Lanson Smithers decided to take his last remaining weapon, a pistol with 8 rounds remaining, and shoot and kill 7 of the 8 soldiers, only hitting the hip on the last soldier, he started to run away, when the German soldier hit the hunched slow target easily as he screamed "Finally, I've accomplished greatness, in a long life of suffering." The German soldier proceeded to bleed out on the ground. Yoshiko was later rediscovered along with the other bodies by his unit and told the great story of how Lanson Smithers saved the unit.
